Imagine waking up in the morning and feeling excited to start the day. You feel motivated to get out of bed and begin the next step of your journey. You feel energized and confident. That’s the beauty of taking action now towards your goal. You feel all of these things because you are now on your way to becoming the person you want to be. It fills your life with the purpose and meaning that sometimes disappears when we get caught doing the same thing day in and day out because we are too “busy” to do anything else. Below are 5 steps I feel anyone can follow to take action now and regain that excitement and motivation into their lives:
Write It Down
The first step in achieving any goal is writing it down. This allows you to think through what it is that you want to accomplish and then state it clearly in a written form. Your goal can be stated on a random piece of paper that you keep in your sock drawer, in a notebook you keep with you, in your journal, or even a notepad on the fridge. Some people like creating a “dream board” with words and pictures of things they want to accomplish that they can look at every day. Whatever your goal is, make it SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, timely), write it down, and review it daily to stay on track.
Commit To Commitment
I have to admit that I stole this line from an episode of Frasier, but I feel it fits here. In order to take action, you have to commit to commitment. Simply put, this means you have to commit to the task at hand and don’t look back. Stay the course, believe in yourself, and believe in what you are working towards. Being “wishy washy” will not get you anywhere. Commit to commitment.
Be Willing To Pay The Price
In a world of instant gratification this one is difficult, but in order to achieve your goal you have to be willing to pay the price. No one is going to magically give you everything your heart desires, you have to go out and get it. Achieving your goal will take time, it will take effort, it will require creativity, and it may require investing money, but remember the journey to your goal will make the achievement of your goal all the more sweeter. Blood, sweat, and tears are a small price to pay for the feeling you get from realizing a dream.
Rome wasn’t built in a day, and your goal won’t be realized in a day, either. It might not even be realized within the month or year. That doesn’t matter. All that matters is that you focus on the task at hand. Don’t get too far ahead of yourself, otherwise you may get overwhelmed. Achieving your goal is the big picture, but within that are all the tiny steps that you will need to take. Just focus on one at a time, and celebrate every successful baby step. Sooner than later you will arrive at your goal. It may even surprise you how soon it comes.
There is absolutely no reason to beat yourself up over what you may see to be a small “failure”. There is actually no such thing as failure, there is only feedback. If you try something and it doesn’t work out, take that feedback and try again. Never give up, and always believe in yourself. You are an amazing creature with endless possibilities for achievement. Do not allow yourself to get bogged down with excuses. Believe in yourself, believe in those around you, and believe that the world will give you what you need as long as you stay positive and keep forging ahead. You can and will achieve anything you put your mind to.
