Why Living a Life of Gratitude Can Make You Happy

Gratitude – a feeling of thankfulness and appreciation. How can exercising gratitude help in living a happy life? Well, from first-hand experience, I can tell you that it helps take the focus off the negative emotions you might be having. Instead of thinking ‘I wish I had this’ or ‘I wish this would happen’, it brings you back to the present moment and helps you say ‘wow, I am grateful for my feet today. I can use them to walk or to run. It’s pretty cool.’ That may seem hokey to some people, but why not be grateful for your feet, or your hands, or even the breath moving in and out of you?

Leo Babauta, the author of one of my favourite blogs Zen Habits, wrote a post on gratitude that I would like to share with you today. I take absolutely no credit for the writing that follows. All credit goes to Mr. Babauta. To read more from Zen Habits (which I recommend you do), click here.

If You Think You're Beaten....

If You Think You’re Beaten
by Kristone

If you think you’re beaten, you are,
If you think you dare not, you don’t.
If you’d like to win, but think you can’t,
It’s almost for sure, you won’t.

If you think you’re losing, you’ve lost.
For out in the world we find -
Success begins with a person’s will,
It’s all in the state of mind.

If you think you’re outclassed, you are,
You’ve got to think high to rise.
You have to stay with it,
In order to win the prize.

Life’s battles don’t always go,
To the one with the better plan.
For more often than not, you will win,
If only you think you can.

Thought for the weekend: Your thoughts will take you as far as you need to go, so what are you thinking?

Where is your faith?

Faith is defined in two ways -

1) Faith is belief that is not based on proof

Most people when they hear the word ‘faith’ automatically think of religion or God or spirituality. Having faith that a higher power exists in the world that no one on earth can see. There is no physical proof of this existence (although those who have this faith would argue that everything living thing you see is proof enough). Unfortunately, this faith seems to either bring people together or drive people apart. I believe Eckhart Tolle states it best when discussing the idea of spiritual faith:

“Religion can be an open door or a closed door. A closed door occurs when one believes there is only one way / one God for 6 billion people on earth. An open door occurs when one allows for others to believe in their own God, which then promotes harmonious spirituality among all people.”

Whether you have faith in a higher power or not, it doesn’t matter. All that matters is that you allow others to have faith in what they believe to be true without judgment.

2) Faith is confidence or trust in a person

Faith is love, which is based on
