When I was younger I used to write poems for my mom on Mother’s Day. They weren’t elaborate Walt Whitman-type poems at all, but it was my little way of showing that I cared. Unfortunately, this little tradition has fallen by the wayside as I’ve gotten older. I blame it on the uncreative mind of adulthood. In place of the poem, though, I still try to add a little extra to my Mother’s Day card by adding a quote or two from some of the great minds of the past or present. Below I share 10 amazing quotes that pay tribute to all of those amazing mom’s out there. Happy Mother’s Day!
“The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.” ~Rajneesh
“My mom is a neverending song in my heart of comfort, happiness, and being. I may sometimes forget the words but I always remember the tune.” ~Graycie Harmon
“It kills you to see them grow up. But I guess it would kill you quicker if they didn’t.” ~Barbara Kingsolver, Animal Dreams
“Insanity is hereditary; you get it from your children.”

You may or may not have noticed, but it’s been a while since I last posted to my blog. I could make many excuses for this, but instead I will recommend a blog that can help us all simplify our lives to really focus on what is important. Too often we get caught up in being “busy” and lose track of what is important – mainly relationships, exercise, and beloved hobbies. Sometimes this can’t be helped. There are just times of the year when the stars align to run you off your feet. However, when you get a moment to step back and take stock of where your energies are being spent, sometimes there are choices we have to make to let some of that busy work go. We especially need to let these tasks or errands go if they don’t align with our goals or values.
One of my favourite blogs to help remind me to live more simply is Zen Habits: Simple Productivity by Leo Babauta. “Zen Habits is about finding simplicity in the daily chaos of our lives. It’s about clearing the clutter so we can focus on what’s

I don’t know about you, but I love reading quotes. I don’t even really have to know the person who is saying it, just so long as the quote hits me with a new or challenging thought for areas of my life that are important to me or that I would like to improve. In ‘Unlimited Power’ by Anthony Robbins, he speaks to the reader about modeling those people who have the characteristics that you would like to adapt for yourself. In my mind, reading quotes gives me the ability to connect with leaders of years past or present, and allows me to adopt a mindset that I know will lead to better thoughts and actions for my life.
Without further delay, let’s get to the quotes from some of the greatest leaders ever born in the month of April.
“I have been impressed with the urgency of doing. Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Being willing is not enough; we must do.”
~ Leonardo da Vinci (April 15)
“Courage is not the absence of despair; it is, rather, the capacity to move ahead in spite of despair.”
~ Rollo May (April 21)
“Fear makes strangers of people who
